Congressional Ads Project
This is the main dataset accompanying the project "Elections, Responsibility and the Rise of Polarized Parties in Congress". The data consist of 12,692 House and Senate television ads collected over the period from 1968 to 2008. The coding includes over 50 items resulting in over 600,000 data points for forty years of congressional races.
Research funding to collect the data was provided by the National Science Foundation, the Mike Synar Research Fellowship, and the generous support of the Institute of Governmental Studies, as well as the Julian P. Kanter Political Commercial Archive at the University of Oklahoma.
